THANCRED WATERS
FINAL FANTASY XIV
— BASICS —
— FIRST IMPRESSIONS —

APPEARANCE Within Final Fantasy XIV race terms, Thancred is a Midlander Hyur, meaning he is basically the most ordinary of the human-like race. He has naturally white hair (no special hair dye here) that is kept short with parted bangs, silver/gray eyes, and he stands at around 5'7.5" tall. On either side of his neck he has a tattoo of a symbol that denotes him as being an Archon.
CLOTHING Thancred will gravitate toward clothing that is both stylish and practical, allowing him to move easily when in a fight. He has a preference for wearing white, though has been known to prefer black in the past as well, so a mix of those two shades will most likely make up his wardrobe. He'll also wear gauntlets, boots, and if he can find it, some kind of lightweight body armor. DEMEANOR Particularly on a first meeting, Thancred will come across as amiable and gregarious. He doesn't hesitate to strike up a conversation for the purpose of getting to know someone (or maybe even because they have information he needs) but he will try to present himself as casual and friendly. He generally wants to be perceived as charming, confident — as someone who's easy to talk to. If a conversation goes into deeper or darker subjects, he may grow more somber or severe, and he can also have serious discussions about politics or an upcoming mission, etc. If he's in a combat or espionage situation, he will be far more direct and to the point.
AURAL Thancred speaks with a British accent and uses ye olde speech patterns a lot of the time, though his vocabulary is a bit more casual compared to some other characters from his series. Still, there will be things like "aught" and "mayhap" and even "anyroad" in his speech. His voice is somewhere in the baritone range, deep but not too deep, and he often has a light airiness to what he says in an attempt to come off as casual. When the moment calls for it, however, he can certainly be much more somber. OLFACTORY More or less smells like an average human, though a relatively active one, so a light sweaty odor is bound to be there. Thancred is particular enough about his appearance and hygiene that he bathes regularly, so a basic soap smell will be there too, unless he's been traveling for a while and hasn't had the chance, in which case he'll smell a bit riper, like the woods and the road. If/when he gets a hand on his gunblade and some ammunition again, he may also smell faintly of gunpowder and metal as well.
— SKILLS —
SPYCRAFT Thancred is skilled in espionage, infiltration, subterfuge, reconnaissance, gathering intel, survivalism, and basically any and all things you would expect a trained spy to be able to do. This also entails putting on a front of sorts to take others' guard down and pull information out of them, if necessary. He can also hold his breath for a long time — an exact length of time is not given, but around at least two minutes is feasible.
SOULDEEP INVISIBILITY Thancred is able (as a part of this same training) to suppress his own aether (his lifeforce, essentially) to make himself completely invisible and undetectable. (He also has to hold his breath to do this.) The downside being that his movement is slowed and it puts an extreme strain on his body, affecting his vital signs. In other words, this is something he can only do for a small amount of time before he puts himself in great danger. (Unfortunately, because of who he is as a person, he can and will put himself in that danger if he deems it necessary.)
SCARRED AETHER This is more a lack of power, but one last important note is that Thancred used to be able to manipulate aether in order to cast magic, but due to a series of unfortunate events, he can no longer do that! He is still extremely capable in a fight, particularly with blades, but he relies on his comrades to magically imbue the cartridges he loads into his gunblade, for instance. Thankfully, he's more than competent with a plain old pair of knives too.
— RUMORS —
- Thancred was gone for about three weeks from late-March to mid-May, along with Yennefer and Stephen. Some are speculating they'd undertaken a special job for Ambrose.
- He has left the Castle Thorne area at least two times in the following months, usually on day trips.
- He remained in Nott for longer than most Summoned following the attack on their croplands, but for what reason?
— HAUNTS —
- The castle training yard, where he'll either go at training dummies or spar with a fellow Summoned (such as Rhy).
- He will often go and get a drink at any number of taverns in town after a day of work.
- He can often be spotted in Stephen or Yennefer's workspaces as he
bothers themchecks on them. - May now be found at the library or various bookshops in town to assist Urianger with his research.
— ITEMS —
- A gunblade, made for him by Ronan.
- An inkless quill, tote bag & charm, and glow ring, all part of a consolation prize from the raffle at the Summit.
ThreeTwo day passes that can be used to portal to one of the other cities in Thorne, earned by completing a quest for Ambrose.- Two shadow lanterns, enchanted items sold as part of a diplomatic visit from Ikorr (and at Oleuni Square). It can be used to darken the immediate area around the user.
- A magical log. With the correct incantation, the log will spring to life with a soft white flame and miraculously not burn anything that it happens to be sitting on. The ambient heat and light from the log will be able to accommodate a small room on its own.
- A pair of period-appropriate sunglasses that he received from Jayce when both of them were in Solvunn. They have an enchantment on them that allows them to shield even the brightest sunlight.
— MAGIC —
- After extended time spent in the Horizon and a quest which took him fairly close to the Singularity, Thancred's aether has healed enough that he's beginning to gain some basic powers.
- Shield - Thancred can create a shield around himself or another person within range of him (no more than 10 feet) that mitigates damage for a short period of time, around 5 minutes. He can only do this once per day.
- Pass without Trace - Thancred's footsteps and movements will be further muffled and he will leave no tracks or trace of where he's been for 10 minutes per day. With additional practice, this could be pushed up to 20 minutes.
- Mind Sliver - Thancred will be able to inspire a painful series of negative thoughts to enter a person's mind. While this may not cause actual physical harm beyond a splitting headache, these thoughts would be overbearing enough to cause someone to freeze up in the middle of a fight for a short time.
